Un-Quality Presentation M1 Carbine

This Un-Quality presentation M1 Carbine was awarded to Adjutant General Billy G. Wellman. The M1 Carbine is a semi-automatic carbine rifle chambered in Cal .30. General Billy G. Wellman served as Kentucky’s Adjutant General From 1977 to 1987. In addition to his service as an Adjutant General Wellman was highly decorated and held many positions during his distinguished career which included Justice Cabinet Secretary and State Police Commissioner, both positions in Kentucky. This carbine awarded to Adjutant General Wellman, carries the Un-Quality receiver, a rare receiver due to its low production total. 

This presentation carbine is in excellent condition, has an 18” barrel and stock in a beautiful American Black Walnut. The parkerized finish on the barrel and receiver group shows its fresh texture with minimal handling marks. Fitted with low wood cut stock, and oval sling cuts on the butt stock. This M1 carbine has a two-rivet hand-guard and type III barrel band with bayonet lug, green web sling, oiler, and rotary style safety. 

This M1 Carbine is within the serial range manufactured by Quality Hardware, as mentioned above the receiver above the serial number “4432806” and “Un-Quality” mostly obscured by the rear adjustable site. The Un-Quality marking signifies the receiver was sub-contracted and manufactured by Union Switch & Signal. The plaque fitted to the stock sits below the Major Generals two-stars and reads “MG BILLY G WELLMAN” “ADJUTANT GENERAL” “KY NG 1984” “1st Bn 149 INF (M)” The various parts are marked as follows; Bayonet Lug “SA”, Front receiver ring “U.S. CARBINE” “CAL. .30, M1”, Magazine Slide Catch “CC M”, Rear Sight “I.R.CO. 7160060” 

Overall, the finish on the parkerized is excellent condition showing a few handling marks on the barrel. The bolt and slide are clean and in excellent finish condition. The stock is in great condition with minor handling marks or pressure related dents. 

Included with the auction of this outstanding M1 Carbine, is a variety of personal military effects of Major General Billy Wellman. The included items all shown in the gallery are; The Major General’s Marlow White Blue General Officers Jacket, Blue Mess Jacket, Trousers, accompanying hats, helmet, Photos of the General, the battalion, the adjutants general brass wall/door plaque, a variety of the Decorated General’s Awards, and miscellaneous belongings.
