This Remington Rand M1911A1 Ogden Arsenal Rebuild, dates as 1945 manufactured Semi-Automatic Pistol. Arsenal Rebuild pistols were taken in, inspected and rebuilt with replacement parts needed to bring them up to operational standards. The Ogden Arsenal was built in 1921 and began storing munitions from World War I that same year. This Remington Rand rebuilds most notable feature is that it wears an Ithaca Gun Company slide.
This M1911A1 Ogden Arsenal pistol issue shows its variety of parts and the standard majority of the M1911A1 feature upgrades. The finish is smooth parkerized, shows a healthy war brown patina in color and it wears plastic checkered grips. Among its parts it has serrated mainspring housing, stamped parkerized trigger, serrated hammer spur. Its markings throughout show sharp edges and all markings are legible.
The Left side markings include on the slide “ITHACA GUN CO. INC.” “ITHACA. N.Y.” a “FJA” acceptance mark behind the trigger. The left side of the 1911 also shows an “L” on the trigger guard bow and a “P” below the magazine release. The top of the slide shows a “P” in front of the rear sight. The right side of the slide shows blank with “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” above the Serial Number “No 2428644” and “M1911A1 U.S. ARMY” on the frame. The Odgen Arsenal acceptance marks the stacked “OG” behind the trigger relief cutaway. On the right-side trigger guard shows both a “Y” and “H”. A faint Crossed Cannon ordnance mark with a slight bounce sits behind the grips under the slide.
The muzzle end on this M1911A1 shows its age with its fair share of handling and cycling marks. The recoil spring housing some deep scars. The front sight shows a ramped and serrated backside, and some flattening on the leading edges. The rear sight is a set by dove tail and features a square notch, it shows some handling marks. The slide serrations show mostly straight lines with some handling marks.
The grips show very well considering the life of this reissued M1911A1, Sharp checkering throughout with minor handling marks noted around the high points, and edges. The screw heads show some tool marks and deviated lines throughout. The front strap shows a thinning finish with some discoloration. The single included magazine is blue and shows some silvering.
Overall, considering this is a reissued M1911A1. This Remington Rand M1911A1 Ogden Arsenal would show off as a unique piece in any collection as each arsenal rebuilt pistol received whatever parts were available to them.
