This World War II Ithaca M1911A1 U.S. Army Issue, dates as 1945 production and is one of the last of 41,305 units manufactured by Ithaca Gun Co. Of New York. Ithaca along with Union Switch & Signal, Remington Rand and Colt, all carried the banner of M1911A1 production through World War II. It’s chambered in .45 ACP, parkerized and wears plastic checkered grips. This Ithaca M1911A1 is Frank J Atwood inspected and is stamped with his “FJA” Inspection mark.
This Ithaca 1911A1 being military issue, shows off a smooth war-worn parkerized finish, traces of minor high edge wear and a light patina on the frame. The trigger is stamped, hammer and slide lock are serrated, thumb safety is knurled, and the main spring housing is grooved. The front strap shows smooth up through the trigger guard, along with a smooth grip safety.
The markings on the left side of the slide are “ITHACA GUN CO. INC.” above “ITHACA N.Y.”. The frame’s left side shows the “FJA” Inspection mark behind the trigger reliefs. A “P” proof mark below the magazine release and the top of the slide. The right-side slide shows blank. The frame shows the “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” above the serial number “No 2651527” and “M1911A1 U.S. ARMY”. Other markings to note Is the proper Crossed Cannons ordnance stamp behind the grips on the right of the frame.
The barrel is a replacement for the M1911A1, marked with a “S” and “P” on the lug. The bore is bright and shiny, showing distinctly strong lands and grooves. Its blue in color and shows common cycling patterns. The muzzle end shows strong edges, with light silvering and the front sight shows light handling marks. The rear sight, dovetail set with a square notch. The serrations of on the slide show light silvering, but sharp and straight edges. The slide to frame fits tight to the frame.
The grips are in excellent condition showing sharp checkering throughout and no major handling marks near the butt of the pistol. The included magazine is finished in blue and shows minor silvering associated with common wear patterns. The butt of this M1911A1 pistol and lanyard loop shows light edge silvering, while still maintaining sharp edges.
Overall, This Ithaca M1911A1 would be the perfect addition for World War II M1911A1 or small arms and semi-automatic collections.

11/28/2023 6:04:28 PM UTCPretty high condition Ithaca here. Looks quite a bit better then the Ithaca / Remington Rand that sold last week. Love the blue barrel and blue magazine contrast against the parkerized finish.
