This Colt M1903 Pocket Hammerless is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in .32 acp, and is capable of carrying 7 rounds. Manufactured in 1911, this M1903 features a heel style magazine release, grip safety, and a slide lock safety. The pocket hammerless also know and the general officers pistol, saw a few variants over time and this one is known as a TYPE III, due to the serial range and the elimination of the barrel bushing. The M1903 features a 3.75” barrel and fixed front sight, with a dovetail set rear sight.
The blue high polish finish is deep throughout the slide and frame and has a lustrous mirror-like shine. This M1903 shows a light amount of silvering around the leading edges, and high edges, with some superficial marks throughout. In addition to the excellent condition of the finish overall, the small parts are bright and vibrant fire blue, this includes the magazine release, grip screw, trigger, slide safety, extractor, and extractor pin.
This M1903 has the following markings on the left side of the slide: “PATENTED APR. 20, 1897 DEC. 22,1903” in front of the slide serrations is Colts Address “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.” The rampant colt sits on the slide behind the serrations, The frame wears the serial number just above the trigger “113092” in a serif styled type. “VP” triangular cartouche is on the left side trigger bow. The right side of the slide reads “AUTOMATIC COLT CALIBRE 32 RIMLESS SMOKLESS” in a serif style type.
Hard rubber grips fitted to the high polish frame of this m1903 are in excellent condition. They show sharp checkering throughout, without noticeable chips or handling marks. A bold type “COLT” is in a scalloped detail at the top of each grip panel. A rampant colt, molded in the grip is at the bottom of both sides. The grip screw still shows bright blue with straight edges.
Included with the auction of this M1903 is the single. 32 ACP magazine, full blue finish, and no markings are noted.
This Colt M1903 Pocket Hammerless is the perfect addition for pre-world war or semi-automatic pistol collectors. The high polish finish would stand out and would enhance any early firearm collection.
