This 1969 Colt Government Model is an excellent example of a Pre-70 series and would be an excellent addition for any collection. Offered with the Colt wood grain cardboard box and Colts Automatic pistol factory instruction sheet. Colt would update the barrel bushing for the 70 series, which would change the barrel bushing to collet style.
This Colt Government Model is finished in blue and shows deep mirror like finish throughout the slide and frame. The top of slide shows a matte finish, referred to by Colt as “glare proof” treatment. This can be seen throughout the perimeter. The front sight ramped with rear serrations, and a dovetail rear sight with a square notch. The trigger, mainspring housing, and magazine release are grooved. The Hammer spur and slide stop are serrated.
On the left side, the Pre-70 Series slide markings are a stacked “Government *Model*” Cantered is Italicized “COLT” in a decorative serif style font. To the right “Automatic Caliber .45” leading to the Rampant Colt. On the slides right side is Colts Patent and address in a single line. The right side of frame shows the serial “325147–C” centered above the trigger. The right-side trigger guard shows a “G,” and the left side shows the triangular “VP” and “S.” The barrel is marked “COLT .45 AUTO”
The muzzle shows no high edge wear or handling marks, and the leading edges of the slide show sharp. Both the right and left sides of the slide are deep blue in their finish and show mirror like and the slide serrations show sharp straight edges. Slight silvering can be seen on the recoil spring housing, that can be associated with common wear patterns for the M1911A1. This type of wear can also be seen on the trigger, and grip safety.
The “Checkered Coltwood” plastic grips are bright in color and show sharp checkering throughout. Slight signs of shrinking can be seen on both right and left sides on at the grip screws, which is common for this era of M1911A1 grips. The screws show light tool marks and some slivering. Centered on each panel is the hallmark Rampant Colt.
The front strap shows some superficial handling marks. The magazine is full blue and shows some minimal silvering, its markings on the baseplate show sharp “COLT 45 AUTO” to the right of a rampant colt, a small “c” on the right corner.
