This 1938 Colt 1908 Vest Pocket is offered with a Colt factory archive department letter, box, brush, and cleaning lubricant vial. A complete example for any discerning collector that would make a terrific addition to any collection. This 1908 Vest pocket, referred to by the Colt Archive as the “Colt Model 1908 Hammerless Automatic Pistol” is chambered in .25 ACP. This small pistol displays case hardened parts in vivid color.

This 1908 is finished in blue, wears checkered walnut grips and is highlighted by case hardened trigger, slide lock safety, & grip safety. The finish is deep throughout the pistol and only small marks can be noted in a few areas. The case coloring throughout the gun’s small parts is vibrant and smooth with light common wear patterns, seen on the trigger primarily.

On the left side of the slide “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. USA” and just below the Colt Patent dates are lettered out. The roll marks show strong edges and deep shadows. On the frame a clearly stamped serial number can be read as “407492” The right side reads “COLT AUTOMATIC CALIBRE 25” Other Markings on the 1908 are the verified proof “VP”, “55” on the right-side trigger guard bow, and a “P” on the left side trigger guard bow. The rampant colt sits above the slide safety and shows strong sharp edges.

The muzzle end shows the most minimal superficial marks around the leading edges of the slide. Some surface corrosion can be noted on the muzzle front left side. There is a small patch of corrosion on the high edge of the slides left side leading up towards the front sight. And small pin print type marks can be noted on the slide guide.

The walnut grips are bright in color and show sharp checkering throughout. No handling marks or flattening near the butt is noted. The magazine well also shows sharp edges, and the serrated magazine release shows straight lines. The magazine is two tone with the top half in the white, the bottom half and baseplate in blue. The base plate clearly reads “CAL .25 COLT ”. Small pin type handling marks can be noticed on the front of the trigger guard.

Items included with the sale of the 1908 are a box, bore brush, empty original lubricant vial, and the magazine. The Colt archive letters states it was part of a single gun shipment, shipped to Supplee-Biddle Hardware Company Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 15, 1938. The box shows a faint trace of the serial number matching.

@Cove3rt - Thank you. The oil vial for these seems very hard to come by. Can easily see it being the first thing to get used or damaged in a set like this.

Neat to see one of these in the box. Let alone with the oil/lube vial. I have only seen one other that had that initially. What a really impressive set.
