This 1958 Colt Single Action Frontier Scout is chambered in .22lr finished in blue and wears artificial Stag grips with the Colt Medallion and is fitted with a 4 ¾ in barrel. Included with the revolver is the serial number matched wood grain cardboard box and the factory instruction sheet. This late 1950’s single action revolver was the alternative for those looking for a Single Action Army, without the price tag, and without the power. While westerns in theaters were gaining popularity, Colt and other manufactures saw the chance to fill the gap in the market.
The blue finish is deep throughout this Colt Frontier Scout revolver, exceptionally light superficial marks can be seen on the frame. All markings read legibly. This Scout is wearing imitation stag grips fitted with the Colt Medallion and did not ship from the factory in this configuration, showing small gaps in the reveal of the back strap. The cylinder shows excellent clean faces, and exceptionally light marks related to cycling.
The markings on the revolver are as follows: The left side “COLT SINGLE ACTION FRONTIER SCOUT 22 LR.” on the frame a rampant colt cartouche, and a “D” on the trigger guard bow. The top side of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A” The ejection lever wears the Colt logo on the front face. The serial number can be found in front of the trigger guard “43154F”.
The box included is numbered to the gun on the bottom in black marker “43154”, wears a gold label on the end “Colt’s Single Action Frontier Scout Revolver” “22 LR” “4 ¾ INCH BBL” “BLUE FINISH”. The box shows its age, with some split corners. Included with the box is the instruction & care sheet.
Overall, this would be an excellent addition to those collectors looking for a nice example of a second-year production of the Colt Frontier Scout.
