This 1914 Colt Police Positive Target finished in Colt’s factory charcoal blue, known as a high polish blue with a 6” barrel and adjustable sites. A rarity in the early double action revolvers, found on the target models. The top strap is flat on this target model. Non target models you would see a serrated and grooved top strap for a rear sight. The target revolver can hold six rounds of .32 Police CTG (Colt’s disguise for the .32 S&W Long) and a more rare configuration compared to .22LR option.
The high polish finish on this revolver retains is deep dark shine throughout, and it wears some scattered freckles and light handling marks. This target revolver wears factory hard rubber grips that show a brilliant black shine and are in excellent condition. The leading edges are sharp, some light silvering. Overall, this revolver shows its 100+ years very well.
The markings show sharp edges and read easily. The left side barrel “POLICE POSITIVE .32 POLICE CTG”. The top side of the barrel wears Colts patent and address “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.” “PAT’D AUG. 5 1884 JUNE 5 1900 JULY 4 1905”. In front of the rear sight markings for windage adjustment can be seen. The Rampant Colt can be found on the frame above the grip. The triangular “VP” can be found on the left side trigger guard bow. The right side of the barrel and frame show no marks or stamps.
The cylinder faces are smooth, showing marks common with standard use. The outer surface of the cylinder shows light handling marks throughout, and light timing. Both the front and back strap show light handling and a bright finish. The butt shows some light freckling.
The hard rubber grips are smooth as mentioned above, with sharp checkering throughout. The Colt hallmark at the top of the grips reads clearly on each side, and the decorative “C” around the grip screw is in excellent condition on each grip panel. The brass insert is bright and the screw head show tool marks.
Overall, this would be an excellent early example for any pre-war or revolver collections, due to it being a less common caliber, an early high polish blue finish and a target configuration.
