This 1981 Colt Diamondback features a 6in barrel, double action and chambered in .38 special has a capacity of 6-rounds. The Diamondback was the 3rd snake gun of the Colts Serpent series released in 1966 after the Cobra and the Python. The Diamondback revolver is finished in Colt Blue and built on the D-frame. It features a single pinned front sight and square adjustable blade accro rear sight. The barrel has a full length underlug and vented rib. This 1981 Diamondback features first style target walnut and checkered grips.
Throughout the Colt Diamondback the Colt Blue finish is deep without any areas of thinning to note. The leading edges are sharp and there is no noticeable high edge wear. The walnut target grips are bright in color and show sharp checkering through.
The markings on this Colt revolver are as follows; the left side of the barrel shows “DIAMONDBACK” over “.38 SPECIAL CTG.” and the frame shows the rampant colt just below the cylinder release and grip. A triangular “VP” cartouche is on the left side trigger guard bow. The right side of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.” The serial number “S64837” can be seen as matching on both inside cylinder crane and frame.
The top of the barrel shows a smooth satin finish down to an orange painted ramped and serrated front sight. The hammer spur shows sharp serrations.
The walnut grips are in show sharp checkers throughout, show a bright gold Colt medallion and the top of each panel and some light handle marks near the butt edge. Light tooling marks are noted on the grip screw.
Overall, this 1981 Colt Diamondback 6in .38 Special would be an excellent addition for anyone working to acquire the original seven serpent pistols or wanting to add to their double action revolver collections.
