This 1919 Colt Police Positive is a double action revolver, wears a 6-inch barrel and carries 6 rounds of .38 Colt. Finished in Colts factory oven blue and wears Colt black hard rubber grips. The front sight is a fixed blade, and the rear is a U groove in the smooth top strap. The police positive was Introduced in 1907 and was used in the law enforcement and sold commercially. It was chambered in .32 Police, .38 Special, and .38 colt, which was Colt’s propriety version of the .38 caliber round.
The finish on this Colt Police Positive revolver is deep throughout much of the pistol, with minor areas of thinning noted primarily around the backstrap and muzzle. The leading and high edges still retain sharpness with some silvering noted. The grips are in excellent condition, with sharp checkering throughout. The seller states: “action is crisp and lock up is tight. The bore shows bright, with strong lands and grooves.”
The hammer spur and cylinder ejection lever show sharp checkering.
The markings read easily on the left side of the barrel as “COLT POLICE POSITIVE .38”. The rampant Colt can be seen on the left side of the frame, with a “VP” in a triangular cartouche on the left trigger bow. The right side of the Police Positive shows no marks. On the top of the barrel reads Colt’s address and patent “COLT’S PT F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.” over “PAT’D AUG. 5 1884. JUNE 5, 1900 JULY 4, 1905”. The serial number is marked on the frame behind the swing out cylinder as “100136”
The hard rubber grips show sharp checkering throughout each panel, and the border shows smooth with minimal marks. Around the screw escutcheon is scroll style “C” placed at the center of each panel. “COLT” sits on the top of each panel in cartouche. Each panel is embellished with scroll type details at the top and bottom of each grip panel.
This 1919 Colt Police Positive revolver would be an excellent addition to Colt revolver collections or Pre-war Small arms collections.
