This 1914 Kongsberg Colt Waffenamnt WaA84 Proofed was manufactured in 1945. The referenced M1914 Kongsberg has fixed sights both front and rear and matches the Colt M1911 pistols production specifications except the extended slide stop lever. The lever also required a relief in the left grip to function properly. Chambered in 11.25 m/m (.45 ACP) and carries a 7-round magazine.
These Kongsberg Colts were produced at Kongsberg Vapenfabrikk a Norwegian factory. m/1914 started production in mid-1917 under a contract between the Norwegian Government, Colt and Fabrique Nationale. The Kongsberg Vapenfabrikk factory was taken under German control in 1945 for a brief time. According to research 920 pistols were produced during German occupation that wear a German proof on the slide in the serial range (29615-30534).
This Kongsberg Colt is finished in phosphate blue and overall, the finish displays deep throughout the pistol. No large areas of thinning are noted; however, the high edges show silvering. The pistol does show marks attributed to standard cycling. The grips show well with sharp checkering through most of each panel and minor flattening noted near the lower edges.
The stamped marks on this pistol are as follows: Left side of the slide leads with the eagle over “WaA84” & “11.25 m/m AUT. PISTOL M/1914 No 29664” The slide also wears the Crown/K over the serial number. The last 3 digits of the serial number can “.664” be found throughout the pistol in various areas which include the slide, slide stop lever, trigger, safety, barrel, grip safety, mainspring housing. The right side of the pistol wears the production date of “1945” on the slide.
The barrel shows sharp lands and grooves. As mentioned, the barrel wears a proof mark and is numbered to the pistol “.664”
The grips are stained birch and show their age well with sharp checkering throughout each panel and minor stain thinning on each diamond relief and light areas of handling around the edges.
Included with the Kongsberg Colt pistol is the Kongsberg Fabrikkbrev control office letter: which confirms this pistol was part of a 200-gun shipment in 1945. The letter also confirms this pistol is within the serial range of 920 pistols that wear the WaA84 “Waffenamnt 84” control mark.
Additionally, the M1914 has a leather holster included in great condition, the leather shows some spotting however all seams are intact and show bright stitching.
The pistol is a single magazine, finished in the white, and without the lanyard loop.
Overall, this is an excellent example of Kongsberg m1914, complete with letter and holster. A unique piece of history, and a perfect addition to m1911 collections, or any World War II collections.
